Current Assignment:
(OUTLINE DUE TUESDAY, JUNE 3 - WRITING IS OPTIONAL - WE WILL ALSO WRITE IN CLASS TUESDAY)
The Outlaws will be going to court to decide who will keep the children. This is called a "hearing." The judge will hear everyone's opinions and then make a final decision right there.
After you read Chapters 17 and 18, your assignment is to prepare a speech that Naomi will give to the judge. A great deal will be riding on what you say.

Your speech should start with a brief introduction about yourself, as well as your final opinion about who you think you should live with.
Then you should have, at a minimum, a paragraph each about the three topics below. You should have at least two examples to support each of your main ideas. Make sure your examples are the most powerful ones, since the judge is the one who is listening and will decide.

  • Your life in Lemon Tree and Avocado Acres versus your possible life in Las Vegas
  • Gram as a mother
  • Skyla as a mother

Finally, there should be a conclusion that ties all the ideas together. (What is the simple, most important feeling you have about Gram and Skyla?)

An OUTLINE is the same as filling in the writing pillar - you just list the points you want to make in the order you want to make them. It will make the speech writing easier the next day.
